14 Reasons to Visit Mandurah & the Peel Region This Winter

Just because the Winter season is here doesn’t mean you have to curl up on the couch for 3 months until the warmer Perth weather comes back.

Now is the perfect time to grab your mates or your family, jump in the car (or on the train) and head down to Mandurah, only 74 km south of Perth, to experience the best the Peel Region has to offer.

1. LAKE CLIFTON THROMBOLITES

Did you know: Lake Clifton is home to the largest thrombolite reef in the Southern Hemisphere.

Situated less than half an hour’s drive south of Mandurah you’ll find Lake Clifton and the Yalgorup National Park. There, you’ll see the largest thrombolite reef in the Southern Hemisphere – the living rock-like structures have formed on the edges of Lake Clifton, and are best viewed from the boardwalk.

After taking in the sights of the thrombolite reef go for a stroll with a 5km, 2 hours return walk trail that explores the eastern shoreline of Lake Clifton and is suitable for most ages and fitness levels.

2. HOTHAM VALLEY STEAM TRAIN

Winter in Peel means that the steam train season has started. Yes there are still steam trains.

Hotham Valley Railway’s Steam Ranger departs from Dwellingup, only 90 km south of Perth, for a 2 hour leisurely trip over the steepest, twistiest railway in WA. Allowing passengers to travel back in time to experience the freedom of rail travel in the style of years gone by.

The first part of the journey takes you down to Isandra Siding. Once you arrive in Isandra, the locomotive will move to the opposite end of the train, giving you a 30 minute stopover…This is a truly unique and fun experience for everyone and all ages.

Ever wanted to walk and play amongst the trees?

Located 45 kilometres from Mandurah at Lane Poole Reserve in Dwellingup, Trees Adventure is the closest treetop experience from Perth.

7. WINERY VISITS It’s not just all about Margaret River.

From the Mandurah Community Museum, you can trip down memory lane with the Foreshore Heritage Tour. This free leisurely walking tour is 1 hour in duration and runs on Fridays and Saturdays at 11.00am

The best way to see Peel region is on 2 wheels.

The Peel region has numerous mountain bike trails to offer catering for all skill levels – beginners to pros.

Langford Park is one of the most popular tracks. A 22km / 3-hour experience, with a mixture of pea gravel and hard packed soil fire roads.
