Tourism Fiji aims to raise the bar every year at the Fijian Tourism Expo (FTE), not only by bringing in the best buyers and trade media from around the world to sell destination Fiji, but by also by assisting ordinary Fijians to benefit from the tourism industry.
In 2015, Tourism Fiji integrated the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism’s (MITT) Fijian Crafted Village into the expo, as part of the Fiji Made-Buy Fijian Campaign that was launched by the Fiji Government in 2011.
The Fijian Crafted brand focuses on empowering Fijian citizens and providing them with an avenue for income generation. The brand identifies and benchmarks Fijian quality, standards, skilled craftsmanship, representing authentic Fijian crafts, made by Fijian crafters with Fijian materials.
14 local artisans will be featured at FTE 2016.
“FTE 2016 will again have a Fijian Crafted Village for artisans to showcase their handicrafts and establish new markets for their crafts,” Tourism Fiji’s Global Public Relations Manager, Ms Patricia Mallam says.
“We see this partnership heading down a path of natural progression, which aligns to our overarching message that FTE 2016 is about ‘Team Fiji.’ We fully support this government initiative to empower our fellow Fijians and are looking forward to enabling our small and micro-entrepreneurs to benefit from the tourism industry,” she adds.
Ms Mallam further adds, “FTE is ideal for building and strengthening partnerships like nowhere else. It is for anyone serious about exploring the limitless potential of the Fijian tourism industry.”
