181437OUTSIDE, the go-to guide for adventure travelers, named Bermuda “Best Island” this week in its annual Best of Travel issue.  It’s a perfect fit. While the island is renowned for its pink sand beaches and luxurious resorts, Bermuda’s reputation as a destination for outdoor adventurers continues to grow. From shipwreck dives to daring cliff jumps, you’ll find no shortage of pulse-pounding, open-air excitement here.

Here are 17 of Bermuda’s ultimate adventures. Discover 23 more on Pinterest and the Go To Bermuda blog.

1. Get Subterranean in Crystal Caves
Located 120 feet underground, Crystal Caves’ dramatic stalactites and stalagmites will astonish and inspire. Walk the pontoon bridge across the crystal clear Cahow Lake and enjoy the otherworldly stillness.

2. Dive In To Discover the Romantic Wreck of the Mary Celestia
Bermuda is the “shipwreck capital of the world” – and one of those wrecks, the Mary Celestia, made international headlines in recent years after the uncovering of a cache of previously unknown treasures, including still-sealed wine and perfume.

4. Ride the Railway Trail
Take a two-wheel ride filled with island history and teeming with rich, flora-filled landscapes. The 18-mile Bermuda Railway Trail is named for the transit route that once wrapped around the island’s shores.  It’s the perfect cycling adventure.

Earn a lifetime’s worth of bragging rights. The Bermuda Triangle Challenge is a survival of the fittest, including the KPMG Front Street Mile, Bermuda 10K and either the Bermuda Marathon or Half Marathon.

5. Climb, Cliff Dive and Explore at Admiralty House Park
Rock climb without fear – if you miss a handhold, you simply splash into the Atlantic. The water’s deep enough for the island’s best cliff jumping experience, and it’s home to some amazing underground caves that the British carved in the 1800s.

6. Feel the Adrenalin Rush of Flyboarding
Fly nearly 35 feet above the waters and enjoy one of today’s most extreme watersports, flyboarding. “Pilots” are connected to a personal watercraft by a 55-foot long fire hose while secured in wakeboard-style bindings.

7. Reel in the Big One – and then Eat It
Bermuda is a bona fide deep-sea fishing destination, with waters filled with big game catches like marlin, tuna and wahoo. Many fishing charters can cut whatever fish you catch into filets for an extremely fresh seafood lunch.

8. See What’s Happening Under the Sea
The colourful reefs that surround the island are biological hotspots; every inch is teeming with abundant marine life. The diversity of species is astounding, with everything from sea turtles to spotted eagle rays calling Bermuda home.

9. Get Some High-Flying Thrills While Parasailing
Experience the panoramic views and pure excitement of parasailing. Soar over Bermuda’s beaches, reefs, historic forts, or the Great Sound area. You don’t even have to get wet –unless you want to, that is. Just tell the crew you want a “dip”!

10. Zoom Across the Water on a Jet Ski
A Jet Ski tour of the island is an adrenaline rush like no other. Zoom all over the waters that surround the island and check out otherwise tough-to-get-to gems, including secluded beaches, hidden coves and sunken ships.

11. Take the Bermuda Triple Challenge
Ready for an extreme weekend? Held every March, the Bermuda Triple Challenge is a three-day obstacle course series, offering participants an action-packed excursion. Strength, stamina and daring are required!

12. Encounter Some of the Rarest Animals in the World on Nonsuch Island
Located at the eastern end of Bermuda in St. George’s Parish, Nonsuch Island is a pristine natural landscape – and home to some seriously rare wildlife, such as the Bermuda Skink and the Cahow, a bird though extinct for 300 years.

13. Swim Through the Caves and Grottos of Blue Hole Park
Located in the heart of the Walsingham Nature Reserve, The “Blue Hole” is a crystal clear blue mangrove pond that you have to see to believe. A dip here will lead you to gorgeous caves and grottos.

14. Set Sail with SOMA
In 2017, Bermuda will host the America’s Cup, the world’s most prestigious sailing race and is currently gearing up for a preliminary event, the America’s Cup World Series, October 16-18, 2015. After strolling through the Dockyard to observe international teams in training, aspiring sailors can get their sea legs on SOMA’s 1972 Pearson 35-foot sailboat offering exciting nautical excursions.
