The first Bledisloe Cup rugby matches kicks off this weekend in Sydney on August 8th, bringing with it an army of Kiwi supporters. Data released today from Skyscanner, the leading global travel search engine, revealed a huge 188% increase in flight searches from NZ to Sydney this week – when compared to the week before.
This trend looks set to repeat itself for the second match held in Auckland on August 16th. Skyscanner data also showed a 74% increase in Aussies looking to travel to Auckland for the match.
Out of all the New Zealand cities, Christchurch and Queenstown saw the biggest growth of rugby fans searching to visit Australian shores to show their support. Interestingly, the two Australian cities that showed the biggest growth in outbound travel searches to New Zealand were AFL hot spots Perth and Melbourne.
