Jon S. Handlery Handlery Union Square Hotel President and General Manager
Jon S. Handlery is President of Handlery Hotels and General Manager of the 377-room Handlery Union Square Hotel. Jon has been involved in the hotel business his entire life, and has been the General Manager at Handlery Union Square Hotel since 1987. 
Jon also oversees operations of the 217-room Handlery Hotel and Resort in San Diego.
Jon is responsible for overall hotel operations at the family owned and operated hotels, and for maintaining the high level of personalized service for which Handlery Hotels has become known.
As a third-generation owner and operator, Jon continues his family’s tradition of commitment to hotel excellence. Harry Handlery, Jon’s
grandfather, founded Handlery Hotels more than 80 years ago, and purchased the Union Square hotel in 1948. Jon grew up immersed in the hotel industry and worked his way through the family business – from front desk to housekeeping to reservations. He reinforced his experience by working for the Hyatt Corporation before returning to work for his father as Resident Manager and then was promoted to his current position.
Jon has overseen numerous changes at the Handlery Union Square Hotel, including the recent multi-million dollar refurbishment. He also directed the 2002 renovation that included the addition of the nationally known Daily Grill Restaurant and Bar. Jon also coordinated the original $10 million project in 1987 that combined the Hotel Stewart and the Handlery Motor Inn to create the current Handlery Union Square Hotel property.
Jon is actively involved in the hotel industry and has held numerous prominent positions. He was the 2004 Chairman of the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau, and he led the 2006 search committee for the Bureau’s new President and CEO. Jon currently serves as a Commissioner of the State on the California Tourism Board. He has also previously served as President of the Hotel Council of San Francisco and President of The Union Square Association.
Jon is a member of the Cornell Society of Hotelmen. Jon received his undergraduate degree at Cornell University from the School of Hotel Administration. He resides in San Mateo with his wife Margaret and their four children, who themselves are also involved in the family business.
