Ovenden and Mc Kenna say backpackers and working holiday makers drive Australian inbound tourism

Tourism Australia reports that Youth Visitors to Australia as a proportion of total travellers to Australia, reached a stunning 31% in 2011 with 1,659,815 of these young adventurous travellers rushing to our shores, injecting much needed cash into our flagging tourism industry.

I took the opportunity at this week’s Backpacker and Youth Industry Conference on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, to speak with Global Gossip Director and Chair of ATEC’s Backpacker Youth Tourism Advisory Panel, Peter Ovenden [left] and Base Backpackers Queensland and Chair of Backpackers Queensland’s Brendan McKenna, [right] about this booming sector and the conference.
