2013 King’s Cup Elephant Polo Tournament started last week in Hua Hin

The 2013 King’s Cup Elephant Polo tournament kicked off today in the royal seaside town of Hua Hin. The opening day of the event offered a spectacle of local celebrities, seasoned elephant polo players, a colourful parade and 50 street elephants – all providing a taste of the excitement to come for the duration of the tournament.

The proceedings began with an opening procession with vibrant marching bands, traditional Thai dancers and gently swaying elephants. The opening exhibition game celebrity shoot out pitted Thai supermodels Cindy Bishop and Lookade Kingpayome and Miss Tiffany Beauty Queens trunk to trunk with New Zealand All Blacks’ captained by Robin Brooke with Olo Brown and Charles Riechelmann.

All elephants taking part in the tournament are street elephants that receive essential vitamin supplements, full veterinary checks and care for the duration of the tournament. All funds raised from this year’s King’s Cup Elephant Polo Tournament will be donated to various projects throughout Thailand. To date the tournament has raised US$600,000
