November 12, 2013 Destination Global No Comments Email Email

There is nothing cold about Taitung in the eastern coast of Taiwan in November, when the Taiwan Open of Surfing will be held at the beautiful town of Jinzun. This year is the third time that the Taitung County Government has hosted the “Taiwan Open of Surfing.”

Taitung had previously been a stop on the Asian Surfing Championships (ASC) tour and, for the first time this year, is representing Taiwan in the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour. The “ASP 1 Star Qualifying Tour” is equivalent to the surfing world’s Olympic-level competition in which top surfers from around the world vie for points in the professional world tour.

The competition this year is flooded with entries, a first for the local surfing community. Over 50 international athletes from 8 countries have registered for the event, including Australia, US, Japan, Hong Kong, South Africa, Indonesia, New Zealand and Greece. When top local surfers are counted, over 200 elite surfers will be competing at Jinzun, Taitung Nov. 13-17.

If you have never surfed before, prior to the thrilling competition in the last three days, you can get a taste of the excitement and fun of surfing through beginner “Stand Up Paddle” (SUP) surfing or even land surfing. Participants will have a chance to win big prizes.

The event venue will feature surfing displays as well as a surfing market with great food and fun games. Everyone is welcome to join this unforgettable surfing experience. The county government has also organized a “2013 Fall Tour of Taitung by B-B” — Bike + Bus. The “Green Sea, Blue Sky and Beauty of Chenggong” itinerary in particular will allow you to admire the surfers’ skill up close during the competition, appreciate the beauty of Jinzun Bay from a distance, and enjoy the delicious sailfish now in season.

Come visit Jinzun and experience the thrill of the competition first-hand! Shuttle buses and transportation information are available at the official Taiwan Open of Surfing website.
