2015 Dapeng Bay Sailing Activities kicked off on April 18 and will continue for three weekends in a row at the Dapeng Bayside Park.

Now in its 10th year of existence, this international sailing tournament has become one of the most important events of Taiwan’s sailing scene.

The tournament began on the weekend of April 18th and 19th with a canoeing competition, followed by a “Sailing across Xiaoliuqiu” regatta, and an around-the-bay windsurfing race, complemented by a rare yacht and sailboat show. Additionally, following examples from large-scale international sailing championships, a white foam party and free boating trials were organized. The Xiaoliuqiu windsurfing race, one Taiwan’s most important, took place April 25th and 26th. Furthermore, for anyone that longed to experience water sports, free sailing and canoeing try-outs were available simply in exchange for five uniform invoice purchase receipts from the current month.

According to the Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area Administration, this year’s Sailing Activities expanded in scope and variety to promote water sports and attract more public interest. The application deadline for the canoe races was even extended to allow more participants, with no application fees required. There was a single race and a relay race with as much as NT$10,000 for the top prize.

Furthermore, six series of activities accompanied the tournament: live band concerts, street artist performances, competitive games, a stamp collection quest, an on-land amusement park, and prizes in exchange for liking the Facebook fan page. Partakers in those activities could also participate in a raffle drawing, with prizes that included accommodations in five-star hotels such as Kaohsiung’s Holiday Garden Hotel’s Presidential Suite and Heineken promotional products, with the total prize value exceeding NT$100,000. The surrounding exhibition showcased million-dollar luxury yachts and sailboats to the public, while food stalls with delicacies from Southern Taiwan as well as other parts of the world were set up to entertain visitor taste buds.
