2016 Avis Travel Agent Scholarship awarded to Barbara Baron from Sylvania Travel and Cruise

The recipient of the 2016 Avis Travel Agent Scholarship was revealed last night with Barbara Baron from Sylvania Travel and Cruise in NSW announced as the winner at an award ceremony held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney.

Five consultants from across New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria were vying for the retail travel sector’s highly prestigious honour and a prize package valued at more than $40,000.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year the Avis Travel Agent Scholarship is awarded annually to an Australian travel agent who delivers exceptional customer service.

Barbara was awarded the coveted scholarship in a hotly contested field of finalists including, Joanna Tatton, Cruiseabout Noosa (QLD), Jeanette Lasek, Travel by Design (NSW), Melissa Pointon, MTA Travel (NSW), and Janene Ferguson, helloworld South Melbourne (VIC).

David Padman, Head of Associate, Corporate and Affiliate Networks at helloworld congratulated Barbara on her amazing achievement in securing the 2016 scholarship.

“This is a huge honor to be awarded, and to be recognised in the crucial area of customer service is just outstanding. Customer service is an area we are dedicated to at helloworld and for one of our Associate Network stores to be recognised at this level is sensational,” said David.

“Congratulations to Barbara and all the team at Sylvania Travel and Cruise!” he added

As part of the scholarship Barbara will receive two return Qantas Airways Business Class tickets to New York, six nights’ accommodation in Manhattan, seven days’ car rental from Avis, a scholarship to study at Southern Cross University with financial support of up to $8,000, 12 months’ individual membership of Cruise Lines International Association (Australasia) and two tickets to attend Cruise3sixty Australasia in September 2017 in Sydney, a Polonious Resources Personal Profile, feedback session and on-call personal/professional coaching for 12 months AND two tickets to the 2017 National Travel Industry Awards Gala Dinner in Sydney (including return flights and overnight accommodation).

In addition to the amazing prize package, Barbara will also enjoy a one year honorary position on the Avis Travel Agents Advisory Board.
