2017 Adventurous Australian Cities Ranking

January 18, 2017 Statistics & Trends No Comments Email Email

Peer-to-peer motorhome rental platform SHAREaCAMPER conducted research exploring which of the 16 largest cities has the highest concentration of adventurers.

Considering Australia is home to some of the most intrepid people on the planet, the study also investigated each location’s preference in terms of extreme and adventure sports.

To compile the ranking, SHAREaCAMPER first chose 12 of the most popular adventurous activities including skydiving, rafting and of course, caravanning. They researched the Google search volume for keywords associated with these activities in the previous 12 months. To arrive at the final results, they averaged their findings into a monthly figure and then divided this by 100,000 citizens. These steps were taken to mitigate the effects of seasonal bias and to ensure fairness between cities of different sizes.

“Both our caravan owners and renters are adventurers at heart,” states SHAREaCAMPER CEO, Florian Dahlmann. “Although our HQ is in Melbourne, along with the highest concentration of caravan lovers, knowing where to find adventurous people across Australia is interesting for ourselves and any other business that thrives on adventure.”

The results showed that Brisbane came in as the most adventurous city per capita, followed by Wollongong and Hobart.
