“For the fourth consecutive year, The Grace Hotel Sydney, together with Federal Hotels International, The Federal Kuala Lumpur, in association with Tourism Malaysia and Malaysia Airlines, are pleased to present the 4th Flavours of Malaysia Food Festival as Sydney swings into a month-long celebration of the Crave Sydney International Food Festival this October whilst Malaysia commences the three-month Fabulous Food 1Malaysia dining feast – enjoy fine dining in October, ASEAN food in November and delicious street food in December.

ÅFood Tourism plays a vital role.  The theme of Visit Malaysia Year 2014 is “Celebrating 1Malaysia…Truly Asia” serves to highlight Malaysia’s brand of harmony in a land of cultural diversity and cuisines.  Flavours of Malaysia is a sumptuous feast for the senses and a tantalizing insight into the unique rich cultural heritage and culinary diversity of Malaysia, Truly Asia.  These tempting delicacies will feature our well-loved local recipes from traditional favourites to the famed hawker fares; including ever-lasting favourites from Tunku’s Kitchen belonging to Malaysia’s beloved first Prime Minister, Y.T.M. Award winning chefs from The Federal Hotel Kuala Lumpur will showcase many of Malaysia’s favourites, reflecting the amazing range of influences from every cultural aspects of Malaysia.  Gourmet lovers will experience the diverse culinary melting pot of Royal recipes from Favourite Dishes from the Tunku’s Kitchen cookbook that includes favorite dishes of Malaysia’s beloved first Prime Minister, Y.T.M. Those with a sweet tooth will be smitten by an array of yummy delectable desserts from the traditional street stalls such as the popular Malaysian favourite dessert, the Ice Kacang (Shaved Ice), with a sweet and refreshing combination of red beans, corn, grass jelly, rose syrup and sweetened condensed milk on a mountain of shaved ice; Bubur Pulut Hitam (Black Glutinous Rice dessert cooked with Sago and Coconut Milk); Bubur Kacang Merah with santan (red bean soup with coconut cream dessert); Bubur Barley dengan Fook Chok sticks (Barley & Bean Curd Sticks Soup Dessert); Sago Gula Melaka (Sago with Palm Sugar); Keladi & Ubi Goreng (Yam Fritters & Sweet Potato Fritters) Kueh Lapis, steamed layered rice cake or rainbow layered steam cake, or popularly known as Nyonya Cake Bubur Kacang Hijau with Durian(Green Beans and durian soup dessert); Pisang Goreng (Banana Fritter); Assorted Nyonya kuih such as Kuih Talam (or Tray Cake), a two layered cake where the top white layer is made from Rice Flour and Coconut Milk, while the bottom green layer is made from Green Pea Flour and extract of Pandan Leaf.  They are distinctively soft and almost pudding like, yet firm and tasty.  Other desserts include Tapioca Cake, Kueh Koswee; Sri Muka or Glutinous Rice with Custard topping; the sweet and delicious Onde Onde which is infused with Pandan juice and filled with Gula Melaka or Palm Sugar and then rolled in with some freshly grated coconut, amongst others.
