A Copeton Dam Good Swim this Saturday

March 22, 2018 Lifestyle No Comments Email Email

Murray Cod won’t be the only thing spotted in the water at Reflections Holiday Parks Copeton Waters this weekend, with the 2018 Copeton Freshwater Swim taking place at the dam this Saturday, 24 March.

Run by the Gwydir Shire Copeton Freshwater Swim Committee, the event has grown in popularity since kicking off in 2013. The swim is open to both under 14’s and adults, with 500m, 1km, 2.5km and 5km events ensuring that swimmers of all levels can take part.

Copeton Waters Manager David Allan said the swim was a great event for the park and he looked forward to welcoming both new and past participants to the park on Saturday.

“The open water swimming community holds events all over Australia and we love to see participants enjoy our park for the event itself and to discover all the other great water- based activities here at Copeton,” David said.

“We love the Copeton Freshwater Swim with many competitors coming back to the park over the years with friends and family in tow to give them the full Copeton experience.

“I’d also like to thank members of both Surf Lifesaving Australia and Yamba Surf Lifesaving Club, who have kindly volunteered their time to ensure the event goes without a hitch.

“The Copeton team can’t wait to cheer on the swimmers from the water’s edge and we are already taking bets on who will outswim our resident Murray Cod.”

Reflections Holiday Parks CEO Steve Edmonds called the Copeton Freshwater Swim a great initiative by Gwydir Shire’s Freshwater Swim Committee  and was proud to have been able to both support and provide a venue for them over the past six years.

“The Swim is a major event within the local area and it’s great to see the positive effect it has across the weekend each year. I encourage all swimming and outdoor enthusiasts to take a trip to Copeton for what promises to be a great weekend at the park.”
