egtmedia59During a recent visit in Myanmar I had the chance to stay at the luxurious 5-star city resort Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake, which is one of the landmarks around the scenic Kandawgyi Lake in Central Yangon and only a short stroll away from the famous and golden Shwedagon Pagoda.

Arriving with THAI International from Bangkok at Yangon International Airport in the afternoon, it took only 30 minutes and 7,000 Kyat (or 7USD) by taxi to arrive at the entrance gate to the luxurious hotel, which is surrounded with splendid greenery. It is advisable to arrive at the Hotel Lobby after 2 pm only, as the hotel is mostly fully booked by tourists and businessmen and check sarawak250x250out time is strictly at noon.

After checking in with a welcome drink, I was taken around the hotel by Miss Treza, who acts as its Marketing Communications Manager. The spacious hotel has altogether 301 guestrooms, including deluxe rooms, 90 Chatrium Club Rooms, special studio suites and the superb, 300 square meters Royal Lake Suite. The Chatrium Club Lounge is at the 9th Floor and offers a full service business desk and a library. At the moment, now during the rainy season, the three executive floors are under restoration. There are plans to top the hotel with another three upper floors in the near future to enlarge it accordingly.

At the Lobby Floor there is a comfortable lobby lounge and a sunset terrace, while on the other side the way leads along a shopping arcade and a branch of Thailand’s Bangkok Bank to a huge ballroom with 5 additional function rooms. Passing the Kohaku Authentic Japanese Restaurant at the Lobby Level, the way down to the ground floor brings you to the all-day dining Emporia Restaurant and the Ritz Exclusive Lounge and Bar with a lavish setting and design.

For relaxation and sport, there is the L-shaped outdoor swimming pool and a pool bar within a palm garden next to a gym and another modern meeting room. A stage is available for dinner fashion shows or weddings parties to up to 750 people. In front of Tiger Hill is a statue with Prince Siddhartha on his Horse and reminds that the property was used by rich merchants in former times. Anyway, a new Tiger Hill Chinese Restaurant will be soon the highlight of the hotel after completion.

Back in my room, I had a fantastic view towards the Shwedagon Pagoda, which is illuminated all night. The amenities in the room are more than enough, offering WI-FI, satellite TV, and in-room safe. All rooms have bathrooms with separate glass shower cubicles. There a private balconies, but which are closed out of safety reasons.

Other services include the Lilawadee Spa on the 2nd Floor, but soon will be changed to the signature Nemita Spa, which features the other Chatrium properties in Thailand. Themed suites will allow for a variety of spa packages from facials and aromatherapies to body scrubs and herbal treatments.

Before leaving Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake after a three nights stay, I met its Thai General Manager, Mr. Bhongbhichai Bitakpuri, who began this hotel project to convert it into what it is today some five years ago, taking over the older Nikko Hotel. He told me that since the change-over to the exclusive “Chatrium” brand, the hotel had been and is still working hard on several projects to upgrade the facilities.

For the next high season in October, the hotel will run on full steam thanks to the Government of Myanmar, its ever-supportive clients, and business partners. Also, the GM gave a big thank you to his entire team of management and staff for their passion, commitment and enthusiasm in makingChatrium Hotel Royal Lake one of the leading hotels in Myanmar. Indeed, a remarkable journey and real experience.
