St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, part of Marriott International (NASDAQ: MAR) and The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur, have partnered with the Royal Selangor Polo Club as official hotel sponsor, to raise awareness for breast cancer at the annual charity Pink Polo Kuala Lumpur tournament this October.http://www.tourismthailand.org/landing/landing_en.html Pink Polo KL aims to empower women through their participation in the polo and riding, and moreover raises funds to benefit the Breast Cancer Foundation.

St. Regis proudly displays its commitment and involvement in this annual event, as it took centre stage on 6 October 2018, during the Breast Cancer Awareness month at The Royal Selangor Polo Club. Referred to as the “grand old lady of Malaysian polo”, the Royal Selangor Polo Club dates its traditions back to 1902 and today is Kuala Lumpur’s central polo playing ground, as well as a downtown venue for members’ family activities and social gatherings. With their own team competing in this polo tournament, the St. Regis players are Datin Nurul Noorajala, Ploy Bhinsaeng, Marianela Castagnola as well as Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Puteri Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah binti Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bokliah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah (Princess of Brunei).

“We are thrilled to celebrate our passion for polo by continuing to enhance the partnership between our St. Regis hotel in Kuala Lumpur and The Royal Selangor Polo Club,” said Bruce Ryde, Vice President Luxury Brands & Brand Management, Asia Pacific, Marriott International. “St. Regis brings style and sophistication into the tournament day, a social occasion that also contributes to a worthy cause.”

Bringing a taste of the St. Regis brand’s historic style to polo enthusiasts, guests are invited to enjoy the day’s matches from the Club House hosted by The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur. The Royal Patron for this year’s event will be Y.M. Puteri Suraiya Afzan, the granddaughter of His Majesty, The Sultan of Pahang, Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Abu Bakar Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mu’adzam Shah . The distinguished guests will immerse themselves into the brand’s signature rituals, including the St. Regis Afternoon Tea, served by the legendary St. Regis Butlers. They will also be served the Asam Boi Mary, a unique interpretation of the classic St. Regis Bloody Mary with a distinct twist to reflect the exquisite flavors of Malaysia – calamansi juice (made popular by the hawker stalls), paprika, asam boi, chilli padi (bird’s eye chilli) and a sprinkle of Sarawak pepper. The famed cocktail has been a part of St. Regis history since 1934 when Fernand Petiot, bartender at the King Cole Bar in The St. Regis New York, introduced the “Red Snapper,” which would later be renamed the Bloody Mary.

“Pink Polo KL is pleased to partner with The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur to highlight breast cancer awareness. We hope that our fundraising efforts for the Breast Cancer Foundation contribute to improving the lives of those that are affected by this disease, as well as draw attention to early detection and prevention in our community,” said Datin Nurul Noorajala, Co-Chairperson of Pink Polo KL. “This annual charity polo tournament is a great platform to strengthen the community of women in the polo and equestrian sports, regionally as well as on a global scale, whilst inspiring the younger generation to persevere in their goals and to give back to society.”
