A Pearl of a Photo

Everyone who goes on a cruise with camera in hand dreams of capturing a holiday ‘money shot’ and P&O Cruises’ customer relations specialist Julie Fletcher is no exception.

Pacific Pearl Sunrise by Julie FletcherSailing onboard P&O Cruises’ Pacific Jewel, Julie captured her personal million dollar shot of Jewel’s sister ship, Pacific Pearl sailing towards Sydney with a magnificent sunrise looming in the background.

Julie had taken her first cruise even before entering the cruise industry 24 years ago. Since then her cruise total is 30 or more – so many she has lost count – but never before has she had an experience like the one that led to this iconic cruising photograph.

Julie was returning from a South Pacific cruise on September 30 and knew that Pacific Pearl was due in the same morning. Perfectly positioned astern of Pacific Jewel, Pacific Pearl was about to sail through the heads into Sydney Harbour in the early morning light.

“I jumped up early because I knew Pearl was coming in behind us and it would be a great opportunity for a photograph,” Julie said.

“I do love taking photographs but I have to admit this was a lucky shot.

“We had been to Noumea, Isle of Pines, Vila and Mystery Island with a party of 40 to celebrate a friend’s fiftieth birthday. It was my friend’s idea to celebrate the birthday with a cruise because they love cruising too.”

Lucky shot or not, Julie seems to know exactly what she needs to do to capture an iconic cruise photo.
