A Slice of Nostalgic Artwork

October 1, 2013 Lifestyle No Comments Email Email

Visitors to The Henry Jones Art Hotel this spring will be treated to a delicious series of prints by Hobart artist CJ Liaubon.

Cheese Cake, the third exhibition in the artist’s Deja 3 campaign expresses an ongoing dialogue of the various autobiographical elements of desire. Screenprints of seductive women from mid-century magazines blended with digitally rendered artwork from retro cooking books, are currently being exhibited in Henry’s restaurant.

This series explores the expectations of the ideal woman of the time – one who maintained her sex appeal while whipping up a dessert in the kitchen to impress the dinner guests. Cheese Cake will be on display until October 31.

Most artworks at The Henry Jones Art Hotel can be purchased and are now accessible to more people through the introduction of the COLLECT Art Purchase

Scheme – a 12-month, interest-free loan scheme helping to enable the purchase of contemporary Tasmanian art from participating Tasmanian galleries.

Meanwhile, The Henry Jones Art Hotel’s restaurant Henry’s Kitchen will host elements of the Plimsoll Inquiry – a new art initiative by the University of Tasmania’s Tasmanian College of the Arts – from mid September.

The Plimsoll Inquiry will involve one-off experimental public interactions – from a vegetarian eating experience amidst live animals to drawing workshops and dancing with performance artists.

Each Wednesday night from October 2 to 30 a ‘Fiasco’ event will be held, spilling into the college grounds creating a zone of organised activities.

Wednesday Night Fiasco aims to generate a micro festival atmosphere, encouraging diverse participation from artists and performers through to food vans, in combination with engagement from the local port businesses and community.

The Plimsoll Inquiry runs until November 2, 2013.
