On the evening of Wednesday 15th July, Illyria Theatre Company will present an open-air production of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice in the grounds of the Georgian mansion, Duff House.

Taking its inspiration from the hit animated film Fantasia, this outdoor interpretation of the children’s classic tells the tale of a young wizard’s assistant.  Tasked with a number of chores by the great sorcerer, the boy apprentice attempts to work some of the magical feats he has seen his master perform before knowing how to properly control the enchantments.

Now Duff House will welcome the re-telling of this spell-binding story through a theatrical production, which will see the famous water collecting scene brought to life in front of an audience.

The Illyria production will include the original music, written and composed by Paul Dakas, which featured in the Disney animated film. The performers will keep the audience enchanted as they recreate magic and illusions designed by the world-renowned magician Paul Daniels.

Lorna Ewan, Head of Visitor Experience, Content and Learning for Historic Scotland, who operate the House said: “Duff House will be a stunning setting for this special re-telling of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

“This open-air theatre experience will see one of the most iconic children’s story of our time brought to life, as a specialist cast of stage-performers act out the original boy-wizard story with a new twist.

“Complete with original feature-film music and illusions, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice promises to be an evening filled with magic, mayhem and water.”

This production is the first in a series of special, open-air theatrical productions that will be taking place across a number of Historic Scotland properties this summer.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice at Duff House will take place on Wednesday 15th July, at 5.45pm for a 6.30pm start.
