A Taste Of Lafite 30 Years Ago At Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

he Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary on April 20.

For this momentous occasion, the hotel will take its guests down memory lane, giving them a taste of what it was like in 1985, when Restaurant Lafite was opened.

It was one of the first French fine dining restaurants in Kuala Lumpur, and its classical dining experience in an elegant ambience, with impeccable service, made it the talk of the city.

Inspired by the first Lafite menu in 1985, the restaurant’s Chef de Cuisine Jean-Philippe Guiard has created a traditional French menu to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

It’s a four-course menu for lunch and dinner that guests will be served at Lafite for the whole month of April.

It begins with Salmon “Bellevue” with Steamed Tiger Prawn, Salmon Roulade and Salmon Roe.

Poached White Asparagus with Hollandaise Sauce and Egg Mollet is the next course, followed by the mains – Beef Cheek Pot Au Feu, Bone Marrow and Roasted Duck Liver.

Dessert is Traditional Vanilla Millefeuille, Vanilla Ice-cream and Caramel Sauce.

The four-course menu is MYR 295 nett. It’s MYR 235 nett without asparagus.

Back in 1985, Lafite’s Executive Sous Chef Pelligrineus used classical ingredients and recipes based on the high quality of the products.

“La Grande Nouvelle Cuisine was born, inspired by famous French chefs like Paul Bocuse, Jean and Pierre Troisgros, Michel Guérard and Alain Chapel,” said Chef Jean-Philippe.

“This menu is a traditional French one as we had it in the 1980s. It reminds me of the classical touch of Joël Robuchon when I was working for him in Paris in 1996.”

On April 20, there will be a 30% anniversary discount for all restaurants in the Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The discount is not valid in conjunction with other offers and promotions. It is applicable for food bill and dine in only.

 

A special anniversary cocktail, Paradise, is also available at Lobby Lounge and Arthur’s Bar & Grill throughout April at MYR 30 nett each.
