Melbourne’s largest hotel operator Accor has reported that they are already holding 87% occupancy across its CBD Hotels ahead of this week’s AFL Grand Final weekend.

With only a handful of hotel rooms still available, the group expect to be near 100% occupancy as early as tomorrow.

Adrian Williams Accor’s Regional General Manager for Victoria said: “The AFL Grand Final is always a major feature on the events calendar with our hotels reporting record occupancy across the board. With all this week to pick up we expect to be at or close to 100% occupancy for Saturday night’s Grand Final. Next to New Years Eve and the Australian Open, the AFL Grand Final Saturday is in our top three busiest occupancy periods of the year in Melbourne. This year we are seeing a big influx of West Australian visitors who we expect will stay longer.”

Instilling confidence in Melbourne’s ability to win and maintain major events, Accor has invested $39 million over the past 12 months refurbishing the group’s expansive Melbourne portfolio. The hotel group this month launched Melbourne’s first 5-star Pullman hotel the Pullman Melbourne Albert Park following a multi-million dollar renovation in time for this year’s AFL Grand Final and next year’s Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Accor is Melbourne’s largest hotel operator with 29 hotels in and around the CBD ranging from the 5-star Sofitel to the economy brand Ibis.
