After a closure of more than four years, the Formule 1 Windsor hotel on busy Lutwyche Road in Brisbane’s Northern suburbs will finally reopen tomorrow (April 1) – complete with a fresh new look and Ibis Budget re-brand.

The Lutwyche Road hotel, part of Australia’s largest accommodation group Accor, was forced to close in August 2009 due to construction and the associated noise and access issues associated with the Inner City Bypass connecting the CBD to the Brisbane Airport precinct.

Chris Sedgwick, Vice President Operations Queensland & Northern Territory for Accor, said, “Work has now concluded on renovating the hotel, and we’re excited to be officially opening on the 1st of April 2014. The new look Ibis Budget ‘Avanzi’ restaurant design – bright, light and perfect for budget travellers

“Despite the hotel’s April Fool’s Day relaunch, Accor is nothing but serious about showcasing the hotel in a fresh new light after so many years of being closed, and we’re very excited about the rebranding. We’re looking forward to waving good bye to Formule 1 and welcoming the hotel back into the Accor fold as the 20th Ibis Budget hotel in our Australian network.”

The hotel has undergone an extensive refurbishment with all 50 guest rooms now converted to the latest Cocoon style room designed exclusively for the Ibis Budget Brand worldwide offering up  25 Queen Rooms, 10 King rooms, 13 Queen Rooms with overhead bunks and two special access rooms.

The hotel’s lobby and public areas have also been refurbished to bright and welcoming Ibis Family AVANZI design (see image attached).

The makeover and rebrand of this hotel to the Ibis Budget brand conveys Accor’s confidence not only in the Brisbane economy, but the revolutionised economy hotel sector at large.

Mr Sedgwick said, “Essentially thanks to new low cost airlines entering the market, gateway cities like Brisbane are benefiting with an increase in the emerging middle-class traveller and in turn, brands like ibis Budget have evolved to keep pace and meet the expectations of modern, value-conscious travellers.”

Since Accor Australia revolutionised the economy hotel sector with the launch of a three-tier economy hotel brand that added ibis budget and ibis Styles to the existing Ibis brand, Australia’s largest hotel group has seen a remarkable increase in revenue growth and consumer satisfaction across its ibis portfolio.

Demonstrating Accor’s confidence in the economy, Accor last year invested close to $10 million transforming its ibis portfolio, including the new look ibis Brisbane in the CBD and the Ibis Budget Brisbane Airport hotel.

Revenue growth for Accor’s Ibis Budget portfolio which comprises the former Formule 1 network is up 4.9% – the highest of the three ibis brands – while consumer satisfaction of ibis Budget exceeded all expectations in 2013.
