The ACI Asia-Pacific Small and Emerging Airports Seminar opened today in Langkawi, Malaysia. The event is hosted by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) and will continue through October 12, 2018.The seminar attracted over 160 participants from across the Asia-Pacific region, representing airport operators, regulators and service providers of the airport industry and features a full range of topics dedicated to small and emerging airports. Renowned speakers and subject matter experts will deliberate on topics ranging from airport security, safety, environment, non-aeronautical business and cybersecurity.

The seminar was officially opened by Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin, Chief Financial Officer & Acting Group CEO of MAHB, Sheikh Aimen bin Ahmed Al Hosni, Secretary Treasurer of ACI Asia-Pacific and CEO of Oman Airports Management Company and Mr. Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport, Malaysia.

Welcoming the delegates, Sheikh Aimen bin Ahmed Al Hosni said “ACI forecasts has identified 9 out of the top 10 fastest growing countries to be emerging and developing economies from Asia-Pacific and Middle East, accounting for over 60% of the world’s passenger traffic by 2040. Hence, it is crucial for the airport community to gather to honestly discuss and deliberate on issues that are relevant and important to small and emerging airports, in order to cope with and prepare to meet the fast-growing demands of the industry”.

The official opening was followed by a keynote address by Mr. Azmir Zain, Chief Operating Officer, Malaysia Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) on Regulatory Framework of Malaysia: Promoting a Resilient Civil Aviation Industry to Support Malaysia’s Economic Growth and a special address by Mr. Arved von zur Muehlen, Group Chief Marketing Officer of Malaysia Airlines on Rebuilding and Refreshing the Brand.

The Small and Emerging Airports Seminar is a dedicated event for the small and emerging airports in the Asia-Pacific region.
