AddressTalk Pioneers “Disruptive” Innovations To Benefit Condominium Communities In Asia

AddressTalk (, the first hyperlocal social networking site for condominium communities, has developed “disruptive” technology aimed at giving residents a greater voice while challenging existing levels of transparency in the property industry.

AddressTalk CEO Graham Brain: “AddressTalk empowers residents by giving them a united voice for the first time”.

Backed by S$500,000 in angel funding, AddressTalk launched recently in Singapore and is well on track to sign up 10,000 users this year, increasing to 100,000 by the end of 2014.

AddressTalk is an SaaS social media platform that has abandoned standard PHP-based application development in favour of Ruby on Rails to “future-proof” the service, delivering high performance, security, reliability and scalability.

The technology also seamlessly integrates with libraries and tools to enable Responsive Web Design, and as other developers scramble to deploy platform-specific mobile apps, AddressTalk simply focuses on one app that runs everywhere, shortening time to market with new features, languages and services.

The engineering strategy has released development from the constraints of “navigation-based” web design freeing it up to drive better UX technologies like “action-based” and “card” design.

“The obvious choice was to host on Heroku’s Ruby-optimized stack,” said Chief Technology Officer Jeff Flynn, who heads the development team. “It is almost effortless to manage, not to mention an advantage to have the ability to use a mobile phone to spin up more dynos and scale our add-ons like ElasticSearch, Intercom, SendGrid, NewRelic and Redis.

Your home in your hand: AddressTalk promotes a sense of community amongst condominium residents by enabling transparent conversation with building management and fellow neighbours.

“We found great tools to manage our projects for everything from source code control to project management on cloud-based platforms like GitHub, PivotalTracker and HipChat. When it comes to delivering in the cloud, we don’t just talk the talk, we walk the walk.”

While the tech development world is paying attention, property developers and management companies who are being paid fees by the condominiums owners are getting a different sort of attention as users exchange opinions about the management of their building.

“This is another type of disruption,” said AddressTalk CEO Graham Brain. “As well as creating a tightly knit vertical community through the value users are able to get from the site, they also very quickly have a louder and more united voice.

“This is challenging committees and building management to be more transparent. We are not pointing fingers at them but it certainly keeps them on their toes as residents are able to get more value for their fees, and that can’t be a bad thing.”

Address Talk directly engages condominium communities providing a means for people living in “vertical neighbourhoods” to both get to know each other as well as exchange ideas, information and buy and sell goods as groups or individuals.

“We are also working on a game changing hyperlocal advertising platform which will offer businesses highly defined and cost-effective marketing opportunities,” added Mr Brain.
