The Adelaide Convention Centre will host a record seven South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival exhibitions with the new West Building providing additional exhibition space for participating artists.
To be promoted simultaneously as part of the Centre ArtBeat program, there will be nearly 160 works on display which include sculptures, paintings, photographic collections and ink drawings.
The exhibitions will be on display from Saturday 1st August with an official public opening night for all the artists on Wednesday 5th August. The exhibitions will be open to the public every day until August 31.

Adelaide Convention Centre Chief Executive, Alec Gilbert, said the opening of the West Building had opened up new exhibition opportunities for South Australian artists.

“We’re delighted to be able to increase our support of local artists and the South Australian Living Artists Festival which has a proud 17 year history,” said Mr Gilbert.

“The SALA exhibitions form part of the Centre ArtBeat program which showcases the work of local artists in a series of back to back exhibitions throughout the year.

“Centre ArtBeat program was developed by the Centre to help local artists exhibit their work for free to the thousands of state, interstate and international guests that visit Adelaide and the Centre every year.

“The program, like SALA, has also been extremely successful in helping artists to sell their work with strong sales reported by participating artists.”

Since Centre ArtBeat was launched in 2012, more than 25 exhibitions by local artists have been hosted at the Centre with thousands of dollars of artwork sold to visitors.

Former Centre ArtBeat exhibitor and judge of the 2015 Epson South Australian Professional Photography Awards Benjamin Liew said it was great an iconic venue like Adelaide Convention Centre supported local artists with free exhibition space.

“The Centre has some excellent hanging space along with plenty of natural light making it an ideal place for art exhibitions,” said Mr Liew.

“My work has been showcased as part of three exhibitions at the Centre and they’ve lent support not only to the exhibitions but also to the opening nights for each.”
