The forward thinking, environmentally conscious island has prohibited the use and sale of disposable plastics since December 2018 and has allowed for a 120-day adaption period within which all disposable plastics are to be removed from the island.

Adventure World Travel and its suppliers are working with the local government, local businesses, tourism agencies and locals to aid with education and implementation of this new environmental initiative.

In its continued commitment to ensure the reduction of single use plastics for generations to come, The Travel Corporation’s (TTC) family of brands, is dedicated to phasing out single-use plastics by 2022 across all operations, travel partners and suppliers. It is estimated that TTC’s sustainability efforts have the potential to help eliminate the use of tens of millions of plastic water bottles annually.

The ban in the thought-leading Brazilian destination, applies to both locals and tourists and in place of plastics will be the use of reusable bags, paper packaging and biodegradable materials. The administration of the archipelago insists the ban is necessary to protect marine biodiversity in a place that is considered an ecological sanctuary and classified as World Heritage by UNESCO.
