After 20 years of travelling the African continent on filming and guiding expeditions, Ian Thompson and Shirli Carswell, partners in the Wildside Safari Company, have combined their wealth of knowledge, experience and love of photography to produce the visually stunning coffee table book, “Africa’s Ultimate Safaris.”
Featuring some of the most idyllic and desired safaris the African continent has to offer, “Africa’s Ultimate Safaris”captures the sheer splendour of the diverse wildlife along with the most beautiful and wildest destinations seldom experienced — but waiting to be explored.
“The very essence of the book was to portray the different regions’ spirit of discovery and the magnificent wildlife, colours and natural elements which serve as a spectacular theatre in the African wilderness,” says South African born, Shirli Carswell, a longtime wildlife advocate and photographer.
Each of the book’s 10 chapters features an exquisite collection of pictorial and scripted encounters; from the Great Migration in the Serengeti, gorilla trekking in the lush, mountain jungles of Rwanda and Big Five expeditions in legendary Kruger National Park to a bygone river safari along Botswana’s Chobe River. Every chapter also includes a beautifully illustrated map of the individual areas.
As safari outfitters who are committed to leaving an eco-footprint for future generations, Ian and Shirli are equally keen to promote the importance of maintaining the balance between human progress and wildlife conservation through the sale of their 192-page book.
“The African wildlife is one of the country’s greatest assets, which we were conscious of when we were gathering our material in the field,” says Shirli. “Accordingly, our book was designed and written in a way where we could reveal the magic of Africa’s wild and fragile beauty and impart the importance of travelling with operators who can deliver responsible and sustainable tourism programs; important conduits that bestow the African people with a motive to protect and conserve their natural resources and wildlife habitats.”
Every edition of “Africa’s Ultimate Safaris” also features Ian and Shirli’s relevant “Spread the Word” material; information that allows the reader to become an ambassador for Africa and ways they can help safeguard the African continent’s natural treasures.
“Our passion is Africa and our dreams revolve around this magnificent continent that we love and never grow tired of travelling. No trip is the same, as each is filled with new experiences and adventures that enrich our lives,” says Shirli.
A visually-enticing book for collectors, intrepid travellers, and a beautiful gift for any occasion, the book is priced at R750 including VAT.
