AFTA has revealed the 2017 ‘People’s Choice: ATAS Retail Travel Agency of the Year’ state finalists after more than 8000 consumer votes were received.

The final winners will be announced at AFTAs glittering National Travel Industry Award Gala Dinner, to be held in less than two weeks’ time – on Saturday 22 July 2017 at the new International Convention Centre, Sydney.

The people’s choice campaign was delivered through a dedicated consumer program in which consumers were asked to vote for their favourite ATAS retail travel agency.

The campaign, administered by International Traveller Magazine & Australian Traveller Magazine, invited consumers to vote either online or through the magazine survey forms. AFTA created branded assets that agencies could use to promote their agency and rally consumer votes.

APT formed an integral part of the campaign, both as prize partner (offering every consumer that voted the chance to win an eight-day Vietnam and Cambodia Mekong River Cruise) and as Gold Sponsor for the People’s Choice NTIA Award Category. The winners will be advised after the NTIA event has taken place.

The travel agencies who received the most consumer votes in each state are category finalists and the winner will be will be announced at the National Travel Industry Award Gala Dinner.

The 2017 People’s Choice Finalists:

NSW – Chris Watson Travel Tamworth

ACT – Weston Cruise & Travel

SA/NT – Kingscote Travel

TAS – Home Travel Company

VIC – Destination HQ Beaumaris

WA – Bicton Travel

QLD – New Farm Travel

“The people have spoken via this campaign, wonderfully executed by International Traveller Magazine, sponsored by APT and open to ATAS accredited retail agents,” AFTA chief executive Jayson Westbury said.

“Bricks and mortar agents remain the backbone of the Australian travel industry and this award process is just another way that AFTA drives the connection with consumers and ATAS travel agents across the country.”
