AFTA has announced that Mint Payments Limited has become an approved AFTA Insolvency Chargeback Scheme (AICS) payment provider.

AICS, launched last month “is currently providing protection to hundreds of ATAS travel agents”, AFTA, the Australian Federation of Travel Agents, said yesterday.

Last month, AFTA revealed that First Data, which deals in commerce-enabling technology, had become a preferred merchant acquirer for AICS.

AICS is a non-profit scheme available to ATAS-accredited travel agencies to provide protection from consumer debit and credit card chargebacks. AICS is a mutual beneficiary fund owned by ATAS entities at no cost to members.

A media release yesterday from AFTA, the Australian Federation of Travel Agents, described securing Mint Payments as the scheme’s newest payment partner as “another strategic milestone”.

“Mint has a network of banking partners, enabling Mint to easily on-board ATAS accredited travel agencies and transition them onto Mint,” AFTA said.

Mint also currently offered a seamless integrated payment solution through mid-office systems such as Tramada and TravelPartner, as well as other travel software leaders like OTALabs, AFTA pointed out.

“Mint’s integration with these travel partners enables travel agents to take payments directly from the mid office, eliminating keying errors, improving reconciliation and overall efficiencies.”

AFTA chief executive Jayson Westbury said Mint was a pioneer in omni-channel payments solutions, enabling organisations and businesses of all sizes to accept, process and manage payments through various channels as online, in person or through a mobile application.

“AICS believes Mint is able to support travel agents of all sizes and types and will provide comprehensive solutions to our members.” Westbury said.

Mint chief executive Alex Teoh said Mint was thrilled to be one of the select approved payment partners of AICS.

“Travel is one of Mint’s key verticals and we are committed to offering payment solutions that are innovative and relevant to travel. The partnership with AFTA further strengthens our payments offering in travel.”
