August 16, 2014 OTA News No Comments Email Email, one of Asia’s leading hotel booking sites and part of Nasdaq-listed Priceline Group (Nasdaq:PCLN), has uncovered the perfect list of hotels for the 2014 Ryder Cup. The famous biennial golf competition will see some of the world’s best players vie for the top prize from 23-28 September.

The tournament has a long and storied history. The first Ryder Cup was held in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1927 after several years of correspondence and planning between American and British golf organizations. The first year was a landslide for the US team, but the tables were turned the next year in Leeds, UK, when Great Britain took the cup. Since then, the competition has continued every two years. In 1979 it was updated to include European players, and has only grown in popularity since.gI_93025_Gleneagles Hotel

Speculation is rife on who will make the final cut for this year’s event. Nine of the 12 players on the US team have been announced, with three wildcard picks to be announced on 2 September, as chosen by Captain Tom Watson. One of golf’s biggest names, Tiger Woods, might still make the cut, but a back injury has made his participation at this point questionable. The European team will be announced on 31 August, with wildcard picks chosen by Captain Paul McGinley coming shortly after that.

This year the event will be held at the gorgeous Gleneagles Hotel in Auchterarder, Scotland. It is somewhat of a homecoming, as the golf course actually hosted the first US men’s golf team to ever play in the country back in 1921. This was three years before the hotel was built and six years before the Ryder Cup was created. Since then the hotel has gained fame as one of the most luxurious properties in one of Scotland’s most beautiful areas. The golf course has also just undergone a major renovation, ensuring a superb backdrop for watching the intensely competitive tournament.

The Gleneagles’ isolated location means that rooms in the immediate vicinity are booked far in advance, but has put together a list of specials in Glasgow and Edinburgh, both superb attractions in their own right. Making your way to Gleneagles via bus, car, or train from these two historic cities is a great way to start the morning, taking in the beauty of the rolling Scottish countryside.
