Aidan Read enjoyed his second taste of LMP3 racing in the 2016/17 Asian Le Mans Series this afternoon (January 8, 2017) in the 4H of Buriram in Thailand, showing class-leading pace on the way to an eventual fifth place finish.

Teaming up with Scott Andrews and William Lok in the #99 WINEURASIA Ligier, Aidan lined up second in class and took the first stint, making a solid start to retain position behind the #67 PRT Racing LMP3.

Read kept his rival firmly in his sights before pitting on lap 37 and handing over to teammate Scott Andrews, who aided with a great pitstop from the WINEURASIA team, took the lead as he exited the pits.

“The start was really full-on,” Aidan explained. “There was a lot of fighting for position but I managed to maintain the second spot in the class and quickly get into a rhythm. The entire first stint was closely fought with the #67 PRT Ginetta, but the gap was stable and I was able to control that gap. It was really fun, physical and a great way to start the race.”

Andrews kept up the momentum at the sharp end of the field but after handing over to Lok. However, the team lost ground in what was a highly competitive field, eventually finishing in fifth position.

“It was a well-executed race and P5 is a solid team result,” Aidan said after the race. “I enjoyed a strong stint where I drove to the absolute maximum which was really pleasing. It has been a fantastic experience and I can’t wait to be back on track for the final round of the championship.”

The final round of the Asian Le Mans Series championship takes place in two weeks’ time (January 20-22) at Sepang, Malaysia.
