egtmedia59More fun in the Philippines

In this exclusive interview with Global Travel Media, Consuelo Jones, tourism attaché at the Philippine Department of Tourism in Sydney, outlines what the Philippines has to offer MICE planners.

“When you talk about facilities, we’ve got a lot of new convention centres, not only in Manila, but even out to the islands,” says Jones. “Many of our big shopping centres are now connected to a convention centre; and many hotels have been built within and around the areas of the shopping centres or convention centres. So we’re making it very convenient.”

“We are very serious about our meetings,” says Jones. “There’s a lot of new venues coming up, and more corporate-type hotels, as well as good hotels within close proximity [to venues]; so if you’ve got big incentive groups, you can bring them all together in one area.”

When it comes to destinations, the Philippines has more than 7000 islands to choose from.

“Of course you’ve got the island of Boracay, which has a lot of activities and is great for incentives. Then there’s Cebu, which you can double-up with the island of Bohol; so there’s a lot of experiential things Australians can do in the Philippines.”

In 2013, the Philippines received more than 213,000 visitors from Australia, breaking the 200,000 visitor barrier for the first time.
