Air Canada’s new general manager Australia and New Zealand has plenty of travel industry experience as well as having worked in a top sales role for American Airlines.

Vic Naughton, who takes up his new Sydney-based position with Air Canada in November, will be responsible for driving the airline’s rapidly-expanding commercial activities across Australia and New Zealand.

Air Canada’s director of sales Asia-Pacific, PK Lee, says Naughton’s skills and experience will ensure the airline enhances its strong regional presence.

“We are delighted to welcome Vic to our team at this exciting time as Melbourne is set to become our third Australian port in December, followed by the launch of a seasonal service to Vancouver and the introduction of year-round scheduled services from June 2018,” Lee said.

“At the same time, the ongoing success of our daily, non-stop flights from Sydney and Brisbane are establishing Vancouver as an important trans-Pacific gateway for Australians and New Zealand travellers to North America and beyond.

“Vic brings a broad understanding of the travel industry, a proven ability to generate business growth and a strong track record of fostering enduring professional networks. As such, he is ideally suited to lead our dynamic commercial team, and to work closely with our valued trade partners to ensure Air Canada sustains its momentum in the South Pacific region.”

Naughton joins Air Canada from American Airlines, where as head of sales he has over the past two years played an integral role in the carrier’s successful return to the Australian market.

Prior to joining the aviation sector, Naughton spent more than 10 years with STA Travel, where he held a series of key sales roles in Britain, South Africa and Australia, including regional general manager Asia Pacific of the global company’s International Student Identity Card Division.
