Air New Zealand has been named Australasia’s Leading Airline for the ninth consecutive year at the World Travel Awards in Shanghai, China.

The airline was also the inaugural winner of Leading Airline Brand 2017 for Australasia.

Air New Zealand chief executive Christopher Luxon said it was fantastic to be recognised by the industry and public yet again as leading the way in Australasia.

“This latest award is further recognition of the outstanding efforts of Air New Zealanders to create a world class company that our nation can be proud of. We have invested significantly over recent years to improve the customer experience on the ground, inflight and through digital channels and it is terrific to see this paying off with numerous awards and all-time high satisfaction scores,” Luxon said.

The New Zealand carrier is going from strength to strength. In April, it was named the most reputable company in both Australia and New Zealand – taking out the number one spot in AMR’s 2017 Corporate Reputation Index in both countries, a feat that entailed beating Qantas and Virgin in Australia.

That was the first time the airline has been named as the most reputable company in Australia and the second consecutive year the company has taken out the top position in New Zealand.

In Australia, Air New Zealand moved from sixth place in 2016 to take the number one spot in the AMR Index ahead of Australia’s own national carriers Qantas and Virgin Australia (which were listed in fifth and 16th place respectively) and other big corporates such as Toyota, Apple Australia, Myer and Woolworths.
