Air NZ to deploy Dreamliner on Adelaide route

March 16, 2017 Headline News No Comments Email Email

Air New Zealand will from October begin flying the B787-9 Dreamliner to Adelaide, significantly increasing capacity on the Adelaide-Auckland route as well as introducing a range of premium seating options.

Air New Zealand was the launch customer for the B787-9, the longer version of the Dreamliner. The introduction of the popular new state-of-the-art aircraft will entail a capacity boost for the airline between Adelaide and Auckland of up to 23% over the peak season (26 October 2017 – 25 March 2018).

Air New Zealand, which said in a media statement that visitor numbers between New Zealand and South Australia are continuing to soar – will offer Business Premier and Premium Economy on this route for the first time.

South Australia is an important market for Air New Zealand, which six months ago launched its Better Way to Fly campaign, designed to encourage more Australians to choose Air New Zealand for long-haul travel by connecting through Auckland to North and South America.

Air New Zealand chief revenue officer Cam Wallace, who flew to Adelaide to announce the advent of the B787-9 on the route, alongside South Australia’s Minister for Tourism, Leon Bignell, said the introduction of scheduled Dreamliner services for the first time was significant for the South Australia market.

“We’re looking forward to introducing the Dreamliner on the Adelaide route.  This change is really going to enhance the experience we offer our customers travelling between South Australia and New Zealand as well as onto our North and South America destinations, with more choice about when and how they fly,” he said.

Air New Zealand recently became the first airline to offer self-service kiosks at Adelaide Airport, speeding check-in.

The New Zealand airline will operate a combination of B787-9 Dreamliner and A320 aircraft between Auckland and Adelaide over the peak season.  The schedule from 26 October 2017-25 March 2018 is as follows:
