AirAsia X Welcomes Increased Competition

Leading low cost long-haul airline AirAsia X has welcomed today’s announcement from Scoot that it will commence five times weekly flights between Singapore and Perth from December.
“We welcome competition in the market and believe that new entrants will help stimulate travel for all operators and provide greater choice for travellers,” said AirAsia X CEO Azran Osman-Rani.

“We believe international travel should be affordable for everyone. Australians have successfully adopted low cost long-haul travel and the people of Perth have thrown their support behind AirAsia X and our low fares from our first flight there in 2008.

“In response to continued demand, we’ve previously announced an increase to double daily flights from Perth to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia commencing November 25, up from the current nine flights per week.

“One of AirAsia X’s strengths is the breadth of its network where guests can access over 80 destinations across Asia.”

AirAsia X commenced with six weekly flights to Perth in November 2008.

The airline has also increased flight frequencies to double daily between Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur and from Sydney beginningNovember 25.

AirAsia X will also soon begin flying into Adelaide, with four weekly flights to its hub in Kuala Lumpur to start from October 31, and return to seven flights a week on the Gold Coast on November 24.

According to the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation, AirAsia X is poised to become Australia’s fourth largest foreign carrier in December overtaking Malaysia Airlines, Thai Airways and Cathay Pacific in the Australia international seat capacity rankings.

AirAsia X was lauded the World’s Best Low Cost Airline Premium Seat and the World’s Best Low Cost Airline Premium Class titles at the 2013 Skytrax World Airline Awards which took place at the Paris Airshow. The AirAsia Group also received its fifth consecutive year title as the World’s Best and Asia’s Best Low Cost Airline at the 2013 Skytrax World Airline Awards.
