According to Mr. Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia, “We are confident in the potential of the China market in the long run. Changsha is AirAsia’s 9th destination in China, and today’s inaugural flight had a load factor of over 70%, which is an acceptable number considering Thailand’s current circumstances”.

The CEO admitted that while Chinese travellers may take more time considering visits to the Kingdom, overall the market of visitors from the country has remained strong and Thailand has retained its place among the top destinations for Chinese tourists. “Apart from Bangkok, AirAsia has also been promoting other destinations in the Kingdom to Chinese visitors such as Chiang Mai, Phuket and Krabi while also recommending its Fly-Thru service, which allows for quick and convenient connections to even more destinations via Bangkok Don Mueang Airport”, said Mr. Tassapon.

“Changsha” is AirAsia’s newest destination in China from Bangkok. The early morning flight allows travelers to get in a full day of sightseeing right after they land. Film buffs will especially like Changsha’s travel highlight, World Heritage Jang Jia Jie Park, which is the filming location of Hollywood hit Avatar. Adventure seekers will be able to experience a sky-high cable car ride to an otherworldly range of sand stone towers. For travelers who like to drink in the atmosphere and view local cultures, Changsha also has the ancient riverside town of Fenghuang waiting to be explored.

To mark the launch of the “Bangkok-Changsha” route, AirAsia is offering a major promotion that will see all seats on flights discounted by 20 percent when booked at Bookings must be made from today until 2 February, 2014 for travel between now and 30 June.

At present, AirAsia is the low fare airline with the most flights to China. AirAsia flies 13 routes to 9 destinations from Thailand to China. From Bangkok (Don Mueang), the airline flies to Macau 4 times daily, to Hong Kong 3 times daily, Chongqing and Wuhan 2 times daily and once daily to Guangzhou, Shenzen, Xi’an, Kunming and its newest destination, Changsha. From Chiang Mai, AirAsia flies once daily to Macau, Hong Kong and Hangzhou (starting 21 February). From Phuket to Hong Kong, there is one daily flight.
