On 8th September 2016, Star Trek celebrates its 50th anniversary. TELE 5 and airberlin are opening the festivities with an exclusive anniversary aircraft with its fuselage adorned with a raised hand showing a Vulcan greeting, and a logo announcing 50 Years of Star Trek. The airberlin A320 Airbus, aka D-ABFG, departed from Dusseldorf for Rome today. The aircraft will be flying around the airline’s European route network throughout September. As well as specially-made Star Trek headrest covers, it will carry 100,000 limited edition “Spock bags”, which are sure to become collectors’ items!
TELE 5 has the exclusive rights to free TV broadcasts of Star Trek: The Original Series in Germany, and will be celebrating the anniversary with a special schedule of programmes starting on 8th September. As part of the collaboration, airberlin will also offer a selection of Star Trek episodes and bonus footage on its in-flight entertainment programme over the coming months. Star Trek fans and passengers of Germany’s second largest airline can also look forward to further highlights over the next two weeks.
