FLIGHT Centre has taken airfare discounting to new heights by releasing a round-the-world fare that costs less than $1000.

Flight Centre general manager Tom Walley said the $999 fare, which has been released today, was believed to be the cheapest round-the-world airfare that the company had ever advertised and was being offered for less than the cost of a lead-in return fare to London.

“This fare represents incredible value and allows travellers to fly from Australia to Los Angeles, London and Hong Kong, before returning to Australia,” Mr Walley said.

“To put this price in context, it is hundreds of dollars cheaper than the usual round-the-world offering.

“You could actually use this fare to fly round-the-world for about $150 less than the cost of the cheapest return flights from Sydney to London.

“As is always the case with our cheapest fares, our advice to travellers is to lock in the deal as soon as possible.”

The $999 fare is available from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth for various travel dates between February 25 and March 28 next year and as part of a 48-hour Flight Centre sale. The flights are with Virgin.

“We believe this a golden era for travellers and we’re seeing tangible evidence of it constantly,” Mr Walley said.

“In addition to securing some of the cheapest international fares we have ever seen, like this $999 offer, we’re also seeing massive improvements in in-flight services and greater choice for travellers as more airlines fly to Australia and as these carriers continue to innovate to differentiate their services.”
