Airport worker filmed rifling bags of Jetstar passengers

If you’ve ever wondered whether to lock your checked suitcases, watch this extraordinary video footage, showing an airline baggage worker rifling the baggage of Jetstar passengers and allegedly pilfering.

Abdullah Hayee Mayeh, 27, was arrested with an allegedly stolen Bluetooth speaker last week after his activities at Phuket International Airport in Thailand were recorded on video, the Phuket Gazette reported.

The publication said CCTV cameras caught Abdullah opening the bag of a Jetstar Airways passenger on 10 October at Bay 15 at Phuket International Airport while loading luggage onto the aircraft. Viewing the video, it looks more like mobile phone footage, but the conduct is clear.

The airline is reported to have become aware of the man’s action after the damning video circulated on social media.

The Phuket Gazette said that when police confronted Abdullah and showed him the video, he confessed and returned the speaker to the public service department of the airport so it can be restored to its rightful owner.

Abdullah was taken to Saku Police Station and charged with robbery. Photos of him standing with a group of senior police officers, apparently under arrest and pointing to the stolen item on a desk, have also circulated.

In a statement carried by the Independent in Singapore and other news outlets, Jetstar said it was “aware of a video circulating online and we are taking the matter very seriously.

“We have launched an immediate investigation and will work with Airports of Thailand, our ground handler BAGS and our local security company to ensure the security of our customers’ property on-board our flights,” the statement continued.

Mayeh was reportedly employed by BAGS, a company that provides baggage services for nearly 100 airlines in Thailand.
