Airports Council International (ACI) World has announced that it will work in collaboration with the International Civil Aviation organization (ICAO) on its  Global Aviation Security Symposium (AVSEC2017), taking place 12–14 September 2017, in Montreal, Canada. This partnership will build on the solid foundation of ACI-ICAO initiatives related to aviation security and on the sustainable development of the industry.

As part of the strategy to enhance international cooperation to address the threat posed by terrorists targeting civil aviation, AVSEC2017 will bring together aviation security professionals from around the world to discuss a new mind-set toward aviation security, one that embraces a culture beyond a set of standards. Within this framework, ACI will develop a special programme dedicated to airports.

“We are all part of a society that has seen the continued evolution of threats to security,” said Angela Gittens, Director General, ACI World. “Airports are part of the solution as society confronts this evolving threat to day-to-day life. As well, with growing passenger numbers and limited space, we cannot keep creating more processing layers and longer queues. We need to find ways of being smarter about security. There is no one solution for all airports—rather, airports and aviation stakeholders must work together to ensure that integrated solutions are in line with regulatory requirements, and the needs, facilities and risk profile of the airport. AVSEC2017 will provide an opportunity for industry experts to elaborate on best practices and new technologies which can lead to global improvements.”

“ICAO is intensely focused on aviation security priorities today, most notably relating to cooperative cybersecurity threat mitigation, landside airport attacks, cargo supply chain risks and the significant contributions we make to minimizing the mobility of international terrorists and other bad actors through our Traveller Identification Programme (TRIP) strategy,” said Dr. Fang Liu, Secretary General, ICAO. “In line with our colleagues at ACI, as well as airline operators and world governments, we’re seeking to meet these challenges with cost-effective solutions which minimize associated impacts on the enjoyment and convenience of travellers, and the rapid expediting of shipments needed to support the modern consumer economy. AVSEC2017 will be an important occasion to share information and advice on these topics, network with professionals from all over the world and keep aviation at the cutting edge of emerging threat and risk mitigation.”

The event is expected to attract international delegates in security-related activities at airlines, airports, government agencies and defence and equipment and technology manufacturers. Participants will also benefit from an interactive exhibition showcasing the latest State and industry AVSEC technology and process innovations, along with dynamic learning workshops.
