Aviation is essential to the economic development of cities, countries and regions everywhere, but governments can only optimize its benefits for their citizens and businesses by addressing the sector’s infrastructure and resource needs in their national development strategies.

That is the key message being conveyed jointly by Airports Council International (ACI) World and international aviation’s most prominent organizations in the special new 2017 report just released on Aviation Benefits.

“The Aviation Benefits report is a joint initiative that highlights the industry’s commitment to the sustainable development of aviation as tool for growth and development,” said Angela Gittens, Director General, ACI World. “Aviation and airports in particular play a vital role in the economic and social well-being of communities and local economies, providing jobs, contributing to GDPs and providing health and humanitarian aid, educational opportunities and improving overall quality of life, etc. International agencies and organizations, development banks and governments can help secure and flourish such benefits by addressing our industry’s most pressing challenges including funding, financing and investment; airport development and expansion integrated transport planning; and, optimizing air traffic management.”

The new joint report, aimed mainly at government leaders and national planners, contains a summarized checklist on the steps to be taken by governments to maximize these air transport benefits, helpful overviews of the related investment, partnership and planning priorities, and comprehensive regional summaries of aviation’s far-reaching socio-economic impacts.

It also provides a comprehensive overview of how international aviation connectivity directly aids governments’ ongoing efforts to achieve 15 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals adopted under the visionary UN Agenda 2030.

The new publication is available for free and will provide invaluable data and perspectives on the unique ways in which aviation fosters enhanced and sustainable prosperity.
