The Ajman government delegation has ended its 6-day tour of Milan Expo by visiting the city of Parma, in the region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy, where they learnt about its high quality businesses and its excellent agri-food system.
The delegation headed by H.E. Saeed Almatrooshi, Secretary General of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Ajman was welcomed by the PARMAforEXPO working group. The meeting was held with Professor Cesare Azzali, Director of the Union of the Parma Industries and President of Parma4Expo; Mr. Andrea Zanlari, President of Parma Chamber of Commerce; Mr. Cristiano Casa, Councilor of Parma Municipality, Tourism and Productive Activities Department and Prof. Davide Menozzi, Delegate, University of Parma.
Mr Almatrooshi explained that the objective of the visit was to gather first-hand information from the participants of the Milan Expo and use the experience to prepare for a successful Dubai Expo in 2020.
Professor Azzali said: “We are honored to welcome you in Parma for the Universal Exposition. We are confident that the UAE will be successful when it hosts its own Expo because of your great reputation around the world in terms of your infrastructure, tourism and business opportunities.”
HE Faisal Al Nuaimi, General Manager of Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD) said the delegation selected the city of Parma because of its similarity with Ajman. Although it is 90km from the site of the exhibition, it played an important role because of the many opportunities available in the field of agriculture, food and education which can be created for a global nutrition project.
Agro food manufacturing, food processing equipment, food chain management, high quality food products, safety and quality control, food traceability, packaging materials, and Protected Denomination of Origin (PDO) are the main assets that Parma can offer to business and government organization.
After the meeting, the team also proceeded to Alma, the International School of Italian Cuisine, which is one of the finest hospitality institutes in the world. Ms. Veronica Felipe, Director of International Relations explained the role the institution played in training students for the exhibition.
