Luxury travel company Abercrombie & Kent has released its new collection of journeys through the Indian subcontinent and Asia. Fifteen countries are covered with a range of travel styles and focuses.

On the new collection, A&K’s Managing Director Sujata Raman said, “In putting together this portfolio we’ve identified some current travel trends and tailored our journeys accordingly. With cruising ever popular, we’ve included our luxury Yangzi offering on board Sanctuary Yangzi Explorer through the stunning Three Gorges, a charming house boat experience on the Kerala backwaters in southern India, Myanmar’s extraordinary Ayeyarwady on board Sanctuary Ananda as well as the sophisticated Aqua Mekong in Cambodia and Vietnam.

Family trips are also in vogue so there’s a delightful 12 day journey in Vietnam from north to south to suit the multi-generational traveller with cyclo rides, cooking classes, market visits, lantern making and more. Some new regional destinations also feature including Ladakh with a hosted small group journey, Uzbekistan, China’s Silk Road and the Maldives.

This new private journey takes travellers to the home of Central Asia’s most impressive architecture, with its abundant ancient ruins and relics. A proliferation of mosques, minarets and mausoleums are found throughout the country and the cities are steeped in the legend of the ancient Silk Road. The itinerary visits two of the region’s most fabled cities – Samarkand and Bukhara – seeing their religious attractions, colourful market places and learning about the rich Uzbek handicraft traditions.

A&K’s 8-day ‘Highlights of Uzbekistan’ journey is priced from $7,715 per person.

For travellers seeking to tack on something new to a journey through Rajasthan, Amritsar in India’s northern Punjab state is ideal. The three day short stay includes an extensive visit to the temple, the Sikh communal kitchen and the ‘going to bed’ ceremony of the holy book.

A&K’s 3-day ‘Amritsar Extension’ is priced from $660 per person.

Southern India

India’s south is a world away from its northern counterpart. It’s a land famous for its silks, spices and sandalwood where time moves at a languid pace. There are incredible palaces and temples plus lakes, tea plantations and colonial hill stations. Highlights include the toy train to Ooty, Nagarhole National Park for tiger and leopard sightings and the old world charm and culture of Mysore.

A&K’s 11-day ‘Treasures of Southern India’ journey is priced from $4,715 per person.

For second-time visitors to India, Kolkata holds a magical allure. It is India’s second largest city and also its cultural hub. Former capital during the British Raj and a trading post of the powerful East India Company, many architectural relics from that era abound including the splendid marble Victoria Memorial. But it also boasts lively markets, lush gardens, temples and boat trips on the Hooghly River.

A&K’s 4-day ‘Kolkata Extension’ is priced from $995 per person.
