Luxury travel company Abercrombie & Kent has released its new collection of journeys through Latin America. Ten countries are covered with a range of travel styles and focuses.

On the new collection, A&K’s Managing Director Sujata Raman said, “In putting together our 2017 portfolio we’ve identified some current travel trends and tailored our journeys accordingly. This year cruising is bigger than ever and so we’ve expanded our offering to include a new 15-day luxury cruise tour taking in Chilean Patagonia on board M/V Stella Australis. Luxury rail also features with the brand new Belmond Andean Explorer launching in May 2017 and, after a lapse of four years, I’m pleased to announce that Cuba is back in the A&K portfolio with an outstanding 10-day private journey taking in the major highlights with specialist insider encounters. There are suggestions for ways to explore Colombia and Mexico in more depth as well as a unique stay in a Deluxe Air-Stream Camper in the Bolivian salt flats.”

WHAT’S NEW?

Cuba

Cuba is emerging as one of the region’s hottest destinations. On this new A&K journey, guests travel around Havana in an authentic 1950s vintage car, dine in one of the city’s most celebrated paladares, watch avant-garde theatre and visit the old haunts of Hemingway. Further afield there are visits to tobacco and sugar plantations as well as the beaches and colonial towns of the south.

A&K’s 10-day ‘Cuba Uncovered’ journey is priced from $9,895 per person twin share.

Extraordinary Ecuador

While many people think of Ecuador solely for the Galapagos Islands, this small but rewarding country has so much more to offer from its charming colonial capital to the unique cloud forest at Mashpi, the extraordinary Avenue of the Volcanoes and colonial Cuenca. On this new A&K private journey guests travel by road and discover the varied and breathtaking landscapes of this small but beautiful place and its rich wildlife and culture.

A&K’s 13-day ‘Essential Ecuador’ journey is priced from $12,750 per person twin share.

Luxury rail in Peru

Launching in May 2017, Belmond Andean Explorer will be South America’s first luxury sleeper train. Travelling the iconic route through the Andes between Cusco and Puno, the journeys explore ancient Inca sites, natural wonders and rural communities in Cusco, Arequipa and Lake Titicaca. There are four routes to choose from of one or two night’s duration.

A&K’s 2-day ‘Spirit of the Andes’ extension is priced from US$555 per person twin share.

Atacama Glamping

For travellers seeking the ultimate in escapism, A&K’s exclusive luxury camping in Chile’s Atacama Desert is properly off the grid. In the magical surrounds of the Valley of the Moon, no more than six guests can enjoy this extraordinary, yet simple, overnight camping experience. Sundowners are served as the sunsets and with some of the clearest skies on Earth, stargazing is a highlight. A tasty dinner is cooked over the fire by the camp chef and constellations pointed out over a glass of Chile’s finest.

Guests on A&K’s ‘Chile & Bolivia: The Magnificent Andes’ journey can upgrade to a night’s glamping during their stay in Atacama. The supplementary cost is priced from $1,950 per person twin share.

Northern Peru

Northern Peru boasts many little known treasures dating from a variety of pre-Incan civilisations. From the incredible ancient wonders of Huaca Rajada and the Temple of the Moon to Chan Chan, a UNESCO World Heritage site. There are extraordinary pyramids and mummies and the Lord of Sipán Royal Tombs Museum is well worth a visit. This region is off the beaten track and its beautiful capital Trujillo is home to the traditional Marinera dance and the Peruvian Paso horse. The second city of Chiclayo is known as the pearl of the north with beautiful colonial architecture, delicious seafood and natural medicines.

A&K’s 8-day ‘Northern Peru Discovery’ journey is priced from $5,650 per person twin share.

Deluxe Air Stream Camper experience

A&K guests visiting Bolivia’s extraordinary Uyuni salt flats are invited to upgrade their experience with a stay in a Deluxe Air Stream Camper. Complete with double or twin beds as well as a convertible sofa, the campers offer all home comforts from electric blankets and a private bathroom with hot shower to air-conditioning/heating and a mini-bar. Gourmet meals are prepared by a private chef.

Guests on A&K’s ‘Chile & Bolivia: The Magnificent Andes’ journey can upgrade to a Deluxe Air Stream Camper experience during their stay at Uyuni. The supplementary cost is priced from $1,995 per person twin share.

Off the beaten track in Argentina

In addition to the main features of Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires, this new private journey focuses on the attractions in the north of the country where the experience takes travellers off the beaten track to some little known areas including the extraordinary Iberá Wetlands, the world’s second largest, the beautiful colonial city of Salta and the Cafayate wine growing region. Boutique accommodation is a highlight and the breathtaking landscapes unforgettable.

A&K’s 12-day ‘Treasures of Northern Argentina’ journey is priced from $9,395 per person twin share.

Colombia in depth

There are four new private extensions this year in Colombia for travellers seeking an in depth experience of the country. There’s a 3 day stay in the unspoiled Tayrona National Park on the Caribbean coast, a 3 day experience in the charming colonial town of Villa de Leyva, a 4 day stay in Medellín which boasts a happening art scene, exciting culinary offerings and great innovation. Finally there’s a visit to little known Mompox in the north which has a World Heritage listed historic centre and a rich artisan heritage. Any of these can be added to a tailor-made journey.

A&K’s 3-day ‘Tayrona Extension’ is priced from $1,495 per person twin share.

Chilean Patagonia Cruise tour

Tailored around the impressive adventure cruise ship M/V Stella Australis, this journey takes guests from Punta Arenas, Chile to Ushuaia, Argentina in the wake of pioneering navigators and indigenous natives. Highlights include some of the world’s wildest and most pristine landscapes with dazzling glaciers, penguin and seal colonies, towering snow-capped mountains, Magellanic forest and legendary Cape Horn. Complementing the cruise are land programmes at The Singular Patagonia, one of Chile’s most unique hotels, and a stay in Buenos Aires experiencing the city’s distinctive cultural and culinary attractions.

The group size is limited to 24 guests with an accompanying A&K tour director throughout. International flights are included from Australia.

A&K’s 15-day ‘Patagonia by Land & Sea’ journey departs 6 November 2017 and 29 January 2018.
