AKARYN Hotel Group, Thailand’s home-grown luxury boutique resort specialist, has hosted its first “Train and Sustain” boot camp at akyra Phuket Beach Club, allowing guests to stay in shape while also making positive contributions to the local community and environment.Reinforcing this pioneering company’s commitment to responsible tourism, the three-day retreat welcomed a total of 32 guests to southern Thailand’s Natai Beach from 13-15 October 2018 for a full programme of activities that combined personal wellness with sustainability, all in a fun and social atmosphere.

Guests from across the world, including Canada, Malaysia, Sweden and Thailand, were welcomed to akyra Phuket Beach Club with sunset drinks, a live DJ set and fire show on the first evening.

On day two, the group visited Khao Pilai School to meet with local children and discuss the major problem of plastic waste. Local youths were then invited to the resort to take part in a fun-filled, cross-cultural Spartan race on the beach between locals and community-minded overseas guests, and an extensive coastal clean-up saw two truckloads of litter removed from Natai Beach, which had been washed up on the tide from other parts of the world. A series of group competitions were also devised to find workable solutions to important environmental challenges.

Boot campers were also able to take part in a series of activities throughout their stay, including sunrise yoga classes, workouts, mindfulness sessions and beachfront treatments from the Ayurah Spa. There were also moments of quiet reflection, and days ended with social events and healthy beachfront meals, overlooking the Andaman Sea.

“At AKARYN, we are always seeking new and innovative ways to preserve the local environment, engage with local communities and help our guests achieve their wellness goals. Our Train and Sustain boot camp perfectly combines these three core pillars, creating opportunities for like-minded guests to come together and enjoy fulfilling experiences on the beautiful shores of southern Thailand,” said Anchalika Kijkanakorn, Managing Director and Founder of AKARYN Hotel Group.

The boot camp was hosted in partnership with The Lab, which organised the activities, and a series of other partner companies including JC Worldwide Enterprise, Socialgiver, and Wine Collection Thailand. This inaugural event will mark the start of a regular series of Train and Sustain boot camps, the next of which is scheduled to take place in March 2019.

Located just 20 minutes’ drive north of Phuket International Airport, akyra Beach Club Phuket is a stylish lifestyle boutique resort with just 58 suites.

AKARYN Hotel Group has pledged to eliminate single-use plastics by 2020, and the company is a long-term partner of the Pure Blue Foundation, which supports marine projects including coral reef restoration and turtle conservation.
