AKP Australia seeks second-hand bikes

The luxury travel experts at Abercrombie & Kent Australia (A&K) have long understood that travel comes with a unique responsibility to leave the world a better place, to respect the natural environment and positively impact lives and livelihoods in the communities where their guests travel. http://www.germany.travel/en/index.htmlTo that end A&K Philanthropy (AKP) was established in 1982 and today AKP manages around 35 philanthropic projects across the globe.

Amongst these is the Bike Shop Programme which empowers local communities through mobility. Each bike shop employs five women, providing them with the opportunity to support their families through earned income. AKP supports the operations of bike shops in Zambia, Botswana, Uganda, Jordan and Tanzania.

AKP Australia is arranging the shipment of a container of second-hand bikes and spare parts from Melbourne to the Duuma Wajane Bike Shop in Tanzania. A&K staff, guests and partners are invited to donate used bikes to the cause with two weekends in November designated for drop off at the Freight Logistics warehouse in Brooklyn.

What: Used bikes, helmets and spare parts?

Where: Factory 38, 640-680 Geelong Road, Brooklyn, 3012

When: Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 November 9am-4pm

Saturday 24 November 9am-4pm; Sunday 25 November 9am-12pm
