A&K’s New Latin America portfolio

What’s new in Latin America for 2016?


One of the continent’s latest destinations, Colombia has a wealth of largely undiscovered natural and cultural treasures. Boutique boltholes are popping up across the major centres, there’s an exciting emerging food scene and reputedly the best coffee in the world. Its landscapes are dramatic and range from high mountains and valleys to desert, jungle, sandy beaches and volcanic coastlines while its people are warm and welcoming. Costa Rica

Also new to A&K is Costa Rica. A&K’s portfolio in the Galapagos Islands has been expanded with new vessels now available. These include the 16-guest mega catamaran, Ocean Spray, which offers cruises from 4 to 15 days in duration; the 50-cabin Santa Cruz II which boasts hot tubs, a gym, glass-bottom boat and itineraries from 5 to 10 days; La Pinta is a sophisticated 24-cabin small ship with kayaks, gym, glass-bottom boat and 4, 5 or 8 day cruise options. A new land-based adventure has also been included with the stunning Pikaia Lodge on Santa Cruz Island where guests enjoy guided land and marine programmes by day and a luxurious resort by night. A new 5-day private journey to San Miguel de Allende introduces guests to this beautiful colonial city in Mexico’s central highlands. Hosted Journey

Within A&K’s luxury small group journey portfolio is an 11-day itinerary through Chile and Argentina. Highlights include Chile’s wine and cuisine, Iguazu Falls, a private tango performance in Buenos Aires, the picturesque Andean lakes, a private brewery experience in Bariloche and luxury hotels throughout. Tours commence January 2016 with prices from US$10,890 per person including internal flights.

The new 11-day Patagonia journey joins the portfolio and combines both Chilean and Argentinean Patagonia. Priced from US$9,395 including internal flights.

Short stays

A brief sojourn into Ecuador’s Mashpi Rainforest Biodiversity Reserve reveals a magical wildlife experience in a biodiverse cloud forest. Accommodation is at the sophisticated and strikingly contemporary Mashpi Lodge where activities include Sky Bike adventures, guided nature trails, waterfall visits and night safaris. 5 days priced from $4,450 per person.

Ecuador’s colourful market town Otavalo is also included on a new 5-day extension, staying at a working hacienda and visiting the town’s bustling indigenous market. A trip on the Liberty Train from Ibarra to Salinas is also a highlight before a night at Quito’s charming boutique hotel, Casa Gangotena. 5 days priced from $3,095 per person.

A new wildlife experience has been added to Napo Wildlife Centre Eco Lodge in the remote Ecuadorian Amazon.
