Alberta Boasts Canada’s Most Expensive Destination, Survey Shows

The town of Jasper, located in the Rocky Mountains in western Alberta, isCanada’s most expensive summer destination based on its hotel cost. That’s the finding of a new survey from CheapHotels.org.

The survey compared hotel rates for all destinations in Canada for this summer’s main travel period of July 1 to August 31.

The rankings were determined based on the average cost of each location’s cheapest available double room. As such, the prices mentioned reflect the minimum amount travelers will have to spend to stay at a certain destination. Only those hotels rated two stars or higher were considered for the survey.

Visitors to Jasper will have to spend, on average, $189 per night for the most affordable double room. Snagging the second most expensive distinction at an average nightly rate of $177 was Tofino, located on the West Coast ofVancouver Island. Rounding out the top three was Niagara on the Lake. To lodge overnight in this southern Ontariotown this summer, travelers will have to pay an average of $174.

Fort McMurray in the Wood Buffalo region and Banff, which is situated in the Rockies like Jasper, made for two moreAlberta destinations scoring a Top 10 ranking. With average rates of $145 and $130 per night, respectively, these Canadian destinations rank fifth and tenth most expensive in the country.

The following table shows the 10 most expensive destinations in Canada this summer. The prices shown reflect the average rate for each destination’s cheapest available double room for the summer time period spanning July 1through August 31, 2013.
