unnamed (5)Altaya Wines, purveyor of premier fine wines in Hong Kong, introduces a selection of summer blends that are hot on the heels of the famous brands, yet are a fraction of the cost.

“Summer has arrived and we are seeing people buy less red and more white and sparkling wines which are lighter and more refreshing in this hot humid weather. White wines are also less dehydrating than red wines and tend to pair better with the flavours of summer dishes making them the perfect choice for summer,” said Altaya Wines Managing Director and ‘Hong Kong’s King of Wines’ Paulo Pong.

Altaya has a fantastic range of top value summer wines at under HKD 400 that are perfect to be enjoyed at picnics, BBQs and boat trips during the summer season. Altaya Wines “Summer wines: the essential survival selection to tackle the hot sunny days” promotion runs from 2-31 July with a top selection of wines at 15% off.

Dry sparkling Brut’s are a great choice and Bellavista Alma NV (HKD 253) has complex aromas of hawthorn, wormwood and bay leaves with a beautifully smooth and refined, long persistent finish. The Pol Roger Brut NV (HKD 336) offers toasty melon and white peach on the nose, with a finish of subtle floral quality and repeating orange and melon notes.

Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most popular summer varietals and the Ata Rangi Sauvignon Blanc 2013 (HKD 136) is dominated with stone fruit and citrus with lovely tropical nuances of guava and papaya. A hint of fennel bulb and a twist of mint join the party, while the flinty minerality steers the fine, dry finish to a long and satisfying conclusion.

Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis 2012 (HKD $145) is a Burgundy white known as the most complex and vibrant wine from the Prehy vineyard. With a brilliant colour and green highlights it is a refreshing wine with slightly iodized notes of citrus fruit and a finish that is stony with salty minerality.

For many, pinot is synonymous with summer and the Italian Schiopetto Pinot Bianco Collio 2013 (HKD $153) is a fresh wine, enveloping the drinker in a perfume of wild flowers and yellow fruit. For those that prefer a red pinot, the New Zealand Churton Marlborough Pinot Noir 2010 (HKD $204) is a complex blend that shows intense dry musky rose like perfume combined with savoury earth and spice with a full-flavour of black cherry.

Summer is also the best time to drink rosé and the Triennes Rose 2013 (HKD 102) is a delightful bouquet of strawberries and white flowers with hints of vanilla. It has the harmony and elegance that has earned world-wide appreciation of the rosés of Provence. Triennes rosé is the perfect accompaniment to a sunny summer afternoon.

“The summer days are too hot for heading out to browse in a wine shop. Visit and in just a few clicks you can stock up on a refreshing range of premium wines at very competitive prices – without leaving the air-conditioning,” said Paulo.

As Hong Kong’s leading wine importer and distributor and exclusive agent of over 90 brands, Altaya Wines is the perfect place to buy the best summer blends. has one of the most extensive wine selections in Hong Kong with leading brands at competitive prices.
