Amadeus recognised for supporting its local heroes

Amadeus is honoured to be recognised by the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) with a Certificate of Appreciation for its support of employee Alan McCartney’s volunteering efforts.

Alan, usually found working as Amadeus’ business development manager for the corporate travel sector, holds the position of Senior Deputy Captain with the Mountain Lagoon Brigade in Sydney’s Hawkesbury region. In February 2017 he was called upon to lead a team of volunteers in fighting the Sir Ivan bushfire in Coonabarabran. This fire destroyed approximately 55,000 hectares including 35 homes and a large number of pets and livestock.

Alan commented, “Amadeus supported me as I led a 24-person team to Coonabarabran for five days to fight the Sir Ivan fire. This was one of the most devastating fires I have seen, during difficult weather conditions. Whilst we had some difficult days, the community and fellow volunteers were extraordinary, and the local people appreciated our efforts and were full of praise for the volunteers.”

The Rural Fire Service developed a Supportive Employer Program to recognise those organisations who allow volunteers to attend incidents and other RFS activities during work hours.

Amadeus Managing Director Tony Carter said, “Receiving this recognition from the Rural Fire Service is a huge honour. We are only too pleased to support our staff with their volunteering endeavours – volunteers make such a big difference to our society in many ways and in this case, literally with lives and homes on the line, giving Alan the time he needed wasn’t something we needed to think about too much. We are lucky to have employees who are passionate about volunteering and so involved with their local communities. It makes our company culture much richer having them as part of our team.”
